Taurus Pt22 Price - There's nothing quite like perusing the seemingly endless plastic and metal tables at a gun show. When I was a kid, I remember my father pulling me through the doors of every show within a 60 mile radius. He never needed more, but enjoyed looking at what he called "the good old stuff".
My father was of course talking about the pistols and rifles that the industry has destroyed. In the years since those childhood trips, I've found many jewels, even a few lemons, on funfair tables at fairgrounds, fairgrounds, and town buildings.

The predecessor to the Taurus 22PLY, the PT-22 is an extremely compact pocket pistol chambered in the .22 long rifle. Equipped with a black metal frame, the pistol is over four inches taller and measures 5.25 inches. The 2.75-inch barrel works well if you're considering taking the "pocket pistol" label seriously.

But what drew me to the Taurus PT-22 was the width. At just 1.3 inches wide, it's the perfect size for my petite hands and fits snugly in my smaller grip—a plus when I want to shoot one-handed.

But before you assume that you can give up a seconds hand, remember that the Taurus PT-22 is a dual action. For shooters accustomed to the heavier trigger associated with DAO pistols, torque will be of little concern. For shooters like me who are spoiled by spring-loaded triggers on my Glock and Springfield pistols, the long DAO will take some work.
The PT-22 used for this review came in at 10 pounds of trigger pull. Compared to my usual carry gun - a Springfield Mod.2 weighing 6.5 to 7 pounds - this was a big departure.

To make up for the lack of a light trigger, the Taurus uses the ever-intriguing pop-up barrel reminiscent of the Beretta 21 Bobcat. The PT-22's barrel pops into the air with the push of a button, making it great for shooters who find it difficult to slide a traditional semi-automatic pistol. The release is easy and is located next to the trigger. The ammo flows right into the chamber and the barrel snaps right back into place with little force. I can see practicality in this design for shooters who can't handle the slide, or where I find the barrel a bit of a novelty, which is my favorite part of this gun.

The first time I took the Taurus to the range, I was ready to shoot. Ammo was cheap so I stocked up. I prepared to work with the PT-22 for hours, took it for an hour and a half with only 10 to 15 minute intervals, and then didn't leave today.

While the .22 strum is always satisfying, it gets annoying when your index finger hits. This was my first adventure with the bull. Later trips became easier and I was able to accomplish much more as I gained strength and got used to the design of the PT-22.

If you're going to the range with this little friend, make sure you place your targets fairly close to your shooting position. The size to match the caliber means you won't end up getting it out past 25 yards. I realized that this gun maxed out at 15 yards, and that if I wanted to hit the paper, I could make it—and even that was questionable at times. I did best in the 3-7 yard range.
The bull has a fixed leaf sight at the front with a notch at the rear. The aim is correct and the first few I threw were grouped to the right of the center of my bright pink target. As I continued to fire and the DAO trigger started to get the best of me, my shots began to spread across the rest of the magazine. The last sheet of the day was almost completely blank on black except for pink. With these results, I knew it was time to call it a day.

In the days I spent testing and tinkering with the PT-22, I can say that I was most pleased with its reliability. It's no secret that Taurus has its ups and downs when it comes to producing reliable hands. In the early days of gun ownership I had a PT-709 that worked flawlessly. On the other hand, one day the entire barrel of my Taurus CIA pistol fell at the feet of a friend of mine who was shooting at the range. This required calling Taurus and purchasing a brand new pistol from the Brazilian manufacturer.
The PT-22 has worked well for me. I'm not going to lie, it is prone to jamming if not fed the right ammo (like most .22's). Luckily it's not too picky and as long as I stay away from reloads (if I run into any) and dirty ammo, we're fine. I only had two subtraction errors in the week of testing for this review, and they were resolved when I switched to the CCI ammo.
The magazine holds eight rounds, and the pop-up design allows for extra rounds in the chamber, giving shooters a total of nine rounds. This is by no means a primary carry weapon. There is no way I would replace this pea shooter with a Springfield, Sig, Smith or Glock, all with double digit capacities.

Still, it's perfect if you need some action and prefer to have another firearm in case something hits the fan. Owners can easily and discreetly carry this Taurus in a pocket holster, wrist strap or thigh strap.

For concealed carriers who refuse to carry unsecured, this gun has a manual thumb safety located on the left side of the gun near the slide. It's easy to turn it off and on - remember to do this before you turn it on.
Again, I wouldn't attach it to an IWB rig as my only firepower, especially due to its lack of capacity and inability to travel distance, but in a pinch (especially if an attacker is on me) enough punch to get you out of a dire situation.

The PT-22 is a stealthy weapon in the sense that it looks unassuming. Shooters looking to integrate a non-intimidating, wallet-friendly gun into their lives may well consider the PT-22. While the trigger isn't a total deal breaker, it can be a pain for some.
While you won't see me rattling around on stage all day with the PT-22, it's perfect for days when more stylish activities require thigh or wrist gear paired with a smaller pistol. Additionally, if I know I'm going to a shady spot and need a little more power, I might look at the PT-22 to ride with me. I think Taurus is making a much better name for itself with recent releases like the GX-4, but I wanted to check out some of its older firearms.
This time I chose the PT22. I chose this because I recently gave a pretty polished review of their latest .22 caliber pistol, the TX-22.

It's basically a Beretta 21, Bobcat in looks and some action, but it doesn't hold up to a Beretta. The popup and slider look cheap at first glance, and the setting isn't doing it any favors. Bottom polymer looks like cheap plastic. I just don't like the way the gun looks. Virtually every Bobcat part is located here. The only real difference is that Taurus has done a better job of incorporating the magazine release. This design choice deserves praise. The fish shake finish on the slide is also pretty clean. But overall, it doesn't look like something I would want to photograph.
PT22 is not great but
