The T-50 was ordered by several countries and was put into service in some of them. Iraq ordered 24 T-50IQ fighter jets in 2013, and received them in 2016. The TA-50 light attack variant was also ordered by Indonesia in 2011, with 16 aircraft entering Indonesian service in 2014; an additional 6 were ordered in 2021. The Philippines ordered 12 units of FA-50 various light fighters in 2014, delivered in the next few years, and the country is considering ordering another batch of 12 aircraft. Thailand has ordered 12 units of the T-50 main trainer (T-50TH) since 2015. In 2022, Poland ordered 48 FA-50s.
The T-50 program was originally intended to develop an indigenous trainer aircraft capable of supersonic flight, training and equipping KF-16 and F-15K pilots, replacing trainers such as the T-38 and A-37 , who were in the service. and ROKAF.
South Korea's previous aircraft systems include the turboprop KT-1 basic trainer produced by Daewoo Aerospace (now part of KAI), and the KF-16 made by licse.
The development of the aircraft was financed 70% by the South Korean government, 17% by KAI, and 13% by Lockheed Martin.

The T-50A designation was retained by the US military to prevent it from being assigned to another aircraft model.
The first flight of the T-50 took place in August 2002, with the first operational test from July 28 to August 14, 2003.
KAI and Lockheed Martin lead a joint T-50 international sales program. The ROKAF placed a contract for the production of 25 T-50s in December 2003, with the aircraft delivered between 2005 and 2009.
The T-50 is equipped with a GE F404 Full Control Digital Engine (FADEC), built under license by Samsung Techwin.

Under the terms of the T-50/F404-102 co-production agreement, GE supplies the engine kits directly to Samsung Techwin, which produces the designated parts and performs final assembly and testing of the engine.
The program expanded beyond the trainer concept to include the TA-50 light attack aircraft and the FA-50 light combat aircraft.
The TA-50 variant is a more heavily armored version of the T-50 trainer, designed for lead fighter training and light assault roles. It is equipped with an Elta EL/M-2032 fire control radar.
The TA-50 can mount additional utility pods for reconnaissance, target support and electronic warfare. Revisions and variants of electronic warfare are also being developed, designated RA-50 and EA-50.

The FA-50 is the advanced version of the T-50, with more internal fuel capacity, mounted avionics, a longer radome and a tactical data link.
The engine is either a Eurojet EJ200 or a General Electric F414 with a thrust of 89 to 98 kN (20,000 to 22,000 lbf), about 12–25% more than the F404's thrust;
And are offered to potential T-50 customers. The FA-50 radar has a range two-thirds greater than the TA-50 radar.
The EL/M-2032 was initially selected over Lockheed Martin's preferred AN/APG-67(V)4 and SELEX Vix 500E active scanning electronic array (AESA) radars. Other AESA radars such as Raytheon's AN/APG-79 and Northrop Grumman's AN/APG-83 are options for future production,

In October ADEX 2017, KAI unveiled the T-50A as a new modification based on the FA-50 multirole fighter, including a fifth-generation cockpit, air tank tank, cockpit multifunction display, dorsal hump for additional internal fuel, and internal training. Suite.
In January 2019, KAI began developing an updated FA-50 known as the Block 10 and Block 20 upgrades. Block 10 is a software upgrade program to use the Lockheed Martin AN/AAQ-33 sniper target pod, while Block 20 improves the ability to conduct air-to-air operations, carrying weapons such as the AIM-120 AMRAAM.

The coach has seats for two pilots in a tandem arrangement. The high canopy developed by Hankuk Fiber is made of stretched acrylic, which gives the pilots good visibility. The trainer has been tested for canopy and ballistic protection for 4-lb objects impacting at 400 knots.
There are 2 internal Sev tanks, 655 liters (701 US gal), five in the fuselage and two in the wings. An additional 1,710 liters (452 US gal) of fuel can be carried in three external fuel tanks.
The T-50 trainer variant has a white and red color scheme, and the aerobatic variants are white, black, and yellow.
